All vocational programs at Aquinas College have general admission requirements that applicants must meet to qualify for admission. However, some programs, such as the Massage Therapy Diploma and the Recreational Therapy Aid program, have additional selection criteria to assess program suitability, including a mandatory police clearance, to ensure the suitability of applicants for these sensitive roles.

Standard Admission Requirements

Our standard admission process ensures that we maintain a diverse and talented student body. To be considered for admission, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Alberta High School Diploma or Equivalent: with english 30-1 and a passing grade of 65% or its equivalent in other provinces. 
  • Or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D)
  • Submitted Dcouments: Valid government ID with Picture, Selfie with ID, Student Enrollment Contract and Student Information Form.
  • Successful Interview: As part of the admission process, all applicants are required to participate in a successful interview with the school admission administration. This interview serves as an opportunity for us to understand your aspirations, goals, and suitability for the program you are applying to. 

Please note that meeting the standard admission requirements does not guarantee admission to all programs. Some programs may have additional criteria, such as specific prerequisites or portfolio submissions.

Mature Admission Requirements

  • Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 18 years old, except in British Columbia where the minimum age is 19.
  • Valid Government ID with Picture: All applicants are required to provide a valid government-issued identification document that includes a photograph. Acceptable forms of identification include a driver’s license, provincial ID card, or passport.
  • Successful result in the Aptitude test with a valid score of 20
  • English Language Proficiency Requirement (ELP): English language proficiency is crucial for effective communication and academic success at Aquinas College. Applicants must satisfy the ELP requirement through one of the following methods:
  • Automatic ELP: If you have completed full-time education (or equivalent) in English in Canada or have completed your higher education from another country where English is the primary language of instruction, you meet the ELP requirement automatically. Please provide a school transcript in English or a letter from your former school stating that English was the medium of instruction.
  • ELP Testing: If you did not meet the automatic ELP requirement, you can demonstrate English language proficiency through one of the following tests or benchmarks:
    • Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB 5.5)
    • ESL Benchmark (Grade 10-12) 
    • IELTS Overall Band 6 
    • TOEFL (IBT) total score of 60
    • CAEL total score not less than 50
  • Successful Interview: In addition to the above options, applicants may also fulfil the ELP requirement by participating in a successful interview with the school administration. The interview allows us to assess your English language proficiency in a conversational setting.

Please note that meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee acceptance into all programs. Some programs may have additional criteria or prerequisites.

Disclosure of Criminal Convictions (for certain programs)

At Aquinas College, we prioritise the safety and well-being of our student and staff community. 

To maintain a secure environment, it is essential that all applicants for certain programs involving vulnerable adults, children, and healthcare-related fields disclose all criminal convictions, including cautions, reprimands, final warnings, bind over orders, and spent convictions. 

As part of the application process, police clearance and/or vulnerable checks will be required to ensure the suitability of applicants for some of our programs. We are committed to upholding these measures to safeguard our community and promote a secure learning and working environment.

 

Fraud Policy

We maintain a strict policy against fraudulent activities in the admission process. Consequences for providing fraudulent documents may include rejection or cancellation of the application. 

We conduct thorough investigations and reserve the right to request additional documentation for verification. Upholding this policy ensures integrity and fairness for all applicants.
